Shane Acker ceases production on new Thomas film?

The theatrical film of Thomas the Tank Engine directed by Shane Acker will no longer go ahead, the director has reportedly confirmed.

Originally percieved to hit the silver screen in 2013, the live action and CGI mix film was then targeted for release in 2014.
However, Acker, who created Arc Productions' 9, has apparently responded to comments on Deadline's article initially promoting the announcement.

Actually, we have cancelled the film due to a lack of interest. Sorry to disappoint!

Nitrogen Studios designed a revolutionary teaser poster featuring an LB&SCR E2 Thomas, The Railway Series' perception of the blue engine.

The film's plot was to have centered around a father introducing his son to the Island of Sodor, where a bonding experience would have been explored.

Thanks to TheDirtyTrain1 for the alert.

What do you think is Shane Acker's decision? Do you feel more time and effort should be been put in or is the director right to end the production? Send in your comments below.

  1. Now I'm making my own. That's what I think.

  2. I'm not surprised. There hasn't been any updates since 2011 and it was hard to get excited about it.

  3. this is ridiculous. I am really cross. I was looking forward to that. I am interested. what do they mean lack of interest, is it feelings or money. I don't understand this garbage.

  4. I personally can't understand why people would get so angry that this has been cancelled when the last piece of information we got on it was over 2 years ago.

Besides, are people REALLY saying that Josh Klausner, Acker and Weta, those that probably have no interest in what Thomas should be about, would have made a better film than Andrew Brenner, Rob Silvestri and Arc Productions, really passionate people that care about Thomas, would?!

It really isn't anything to get upset over, there's King of the Railway and Series 17 to look forward to

  6. I'm disappointed... I mean 'really' disappointed...

Though Chris and NWR1991 are right. Not much has been done to show more of the film's production. I'm even questioning myself... Has it really been two years?!

On that note on the other hand. I think the production team wasn't even trying. We've had a great interest since the teaser picture came out. Afterwards there's was many conversations, agreements, arguments, and so on.

I was holding my breath sometimes to see something, Anything!, more about the film... It never came... And now they say they cancel it? Just like that!? I think they've not found out how much 'interest' we've truly had for this... if it were to be... Masterpiece!

If they'd done something more... like more teaser pictures, maybe even a teaser trailer... I'm sure they've made a tsunami of interest!!

    1. I'd agree with that, but a "masterpiece"? If you want a Thomas masterpiece, you could just watch Series 1 and 2. This film just sounded like T&TMR, so I can't really see how people can praise it for being the same thing we've already seen when fans criticised Sharon Miller for exactly the same thing!

    2. Again as i said. 'If it were to be...' Meaning it might or might not as well be a masterpiece. We don't know and I guess we'll never know now.

  7. To be honest; I saw this coming. I am disappointed, but at the same time, I'm fine with this decision. We got an epic poster from Nitrogen Studios and a proposed release date and nothing else. No trailer, no nothing.

It was a chance to get more people to notice the Railway Series which started the series and is sadly and not surprisingly being overshadowed like crazy by the TV series.

    1. I think the only way to get the Railway Series noticed now is to integrate more RS elements into the TV series, whether that be introducing RS characters or making new (and maybe existing?) locations look more like the RS artwork

  8. To be honest, I’m pleased; from what Acker said (or was it someone else?) it sounded like Thomas and the Magic Railroad 2. “…a world of trains without people…” It was almost bound to be a flop. So I’m happy this was halted.
I’m not surprised either, though; we didn’t even get a trailer, only a promo shot, and nothing on the film was released since when? 2011? Yeah, this doesn’t surprise me

  9. While I am bummed about the decision, it seems like a realistic one. Thomas is (sorry to say it, but it's true) a show for preschool aged children. Sometimes this fandom acts up a bit too much. We all have to remember just because we're fans, doesn't mean we count. It's all about money. Besides from us and kids who watch it nowadays, there honestly isn't enough interest.

  10. My view is that it's not the end of the world. HIT Movies are having to do a Bob The Builder film to add to their portfolio.
Maybe they'll get a DEDICATED film crew to have a fresh idea on what a Thomas theatrical film should be.
    I mean, you never know...

  12. Hey this is SkarloeyFan,
TBH show we get worked up over something that was never going to be and look back at what we have got already, Yes it would have been nice to of seen Thomas branch out to other age ranges and a whole new range of merchandise to go with it, but we already have so much as it is. And Thomas is loved by people of ALL ages. Plus would WWII be a good setting for a Thomas film?

  13. According to something a friend of mine quoted from the TTTE wikia talk page, the movie has been resumed for development and might be released on October 2015.

So far I'm gonna assume this is fake... but if this is true, I'll be glad! ^^

    1. Has anyone read my link yet?

"Sorry for the disappointment. My comment was posted over 5 months ago. We decided to continue with the film as planned, and scheduled release is in October of 2015.
As a little teaser, fans can expect some long awaited returns and the introduction of a very “devious” diesel. Also, Kelsey Grammar and Jack Nicholson have agreed to sign on to the project!
      Regards, Shane."

This is what Shane posted. Seems suspicious. Thoughts?
